As a professional speaker I spend a significant amount of time traveling around the world and inspiring people through my leadership speaking.
I am grateful for the kind words, compliments and hospitality that people accord me when I speak publicly.
When people pay you a compliment, how do you respond? Growing up I would often hear that when people acknowledge your deeds or anything about you, saying thank you is a sign of humility. As I got older, I realized that humility is far more than that.
Through my interactions with people from all walks of life, I have learnt that humility is acknowledging that everything we have, our talents and treasures all come from the One above. We are nothing without our God given talents. To exhibit humility also means that we appreciate the gift of others. Accepting that I am nobody without the people around me. I am who I am because the people around me helped me to be who I am now. When you climb the ladder to success, you do not take the flight alone, you bring the people who were instrumental in your successful journey and you all succeed together. That is the true essence of humility.
When you humble yourself, you give a part of you to others. It is an expression of gratitude shown in actions and not just in words.
Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less. -C. S. Lewis
