Where do you find leaders? Every so often, we think leaders are hard to find because we equate leadership to those in the boardroom and those that give orders to a team. If we limit our concept of leadership to this, I agree that leaders are hard to find. However, leaders are everywhere. They can be your parents, your neighbor, your siblings, the vendor across the street, anyone can be a leader.
People you look up to and admire because they inspire and motivate you to be a better version of yourself are leaders. They do not simply talk, but they walk the talk. “Practice what you preach” and “Leadership by example” are their guiding principles in life.
Leadership is a responsibility. You lead, because you want to help others achieve success and attain their goals in life. You need to have a servant’s heart because you lead not to be served, but you believe in servant leadership.
The Coronavirus pandemic turned the world upside down. Economies are starting to take a down fall, a vast majority are locked in their respective homes while waiting for all this to end. However, if there is one good thing that came out from this, it is our ability to easily determine who are the real leaders.
I read an article on some people in positions who used their power and influence to put their personal interests first before that of the people they serve. They took leadership to be a privilege more than a service. An attitude that is totally unbecoming of a leader.
A great leader must be intentional. You do not react, but act on issues. Intentional leaders have a plan on making things happen. Leadership is action.
Given all these, if you ask me who is my leader — my father is my leader. He led me to a journey that I will forever be grateful for. He gave me a legacy that not only made me a better leader but made me a servant for others, both in words and in deeds.
